FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is Poke and how you make it at Haiku Tokyo?
A: Poke (Pronounced "po-kay") literally translated from Hawaiian means “cut piece” or “to section” and is a traditional island dish combining cubed raw or marinated fish plus a touch of soy sauce. It’s a way of life and part of cherished Hawaiian culture for decades. We adopt a modern way of Poke spin by layering sushi rice, cubed fish, fresh toppings and special seasonings into a yummy, customizable, grab-and-go dish that’s enjoyed at anywhere.
Q: Is the fish raw or cooked in your Poke?
A: Our tuna, salmon and yellow tail are raw as in the traditional fresh Hawaii style. The shrimp, octopus and scallop are cooked. You can choose fried chicken, tofu or even the soy beef cube to create your own bowl.
Q: Can I order by phone?
A: Absolutely! You can always call us/walk in to order and pay when you pick it up later. Just leave your phone number for us to contact you in case we need to make changes. It's wise to skip the line and order by phone.
Q: Can I make reservations?
A: Yes, we take reservations. Please give us a call before you arrive and we'll be happy to let you know how busy things are in our dining room.
Q: What is inside your Ramen?
A: Our Japanese Style hot Ramen soup is made with Fresh Ramen noodle, marinated pork belly or beef cooked with a few vegetables that are used to make the traditional Japanese Ramen. We cook our pork/chicken bone soup everyday to bring the authentic rich Ramen soup flavor. You can ask for other veggies available in our restaurant to be added to your Ramen bowl.
Q: I’m a vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free diner. Do you have anything for me on your menu?
A: We surely do! While we are not a vegetarian restaurant, we are proud to offer a variety of vegetarian/vegan options with gluten-free sauce. Our vegetarian Poke bowl uses fried Tofu as the protein base and our Ramen noodle can be always made in the non-meat broth without losing any original flavor. Please ask at the counter for guidance when placing your order, we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When in doubt, just ask!
